It really doesn't matter what age you are at, almost everyone wants to be more grown up than they currently are. Notable exceptions include babies, people who are already very elderly, and people who think that life would just be easier if they were babies. Now, while we can't teleport ourselves into our more youthful bodies while keeping our intellect, we can live a little vicariously through others, and in this case other mediums. Classroom Crisis is a series that strikes the happy medium between being a workplace professional and a tender hearted youth. For those of us who are not tender hearted, never fear, this series also has people who are either quirky, emotionless, or NEETs in their own right. I'm sure that you can definitely find something of yourself within the boundaries of this anime.
Classroom Crisis is a really cool anime series that makes use of youth accolades and extrapolates them to include real world application. Taking place in the not so distance future, the Kirishina Corporation is one of the leading producers of new technological applications in the field of aeronautics. In order to facilitate a high yield of new ideas, the company hires promising youth and enrolls them into a special high school curriculum that allows students to get both academic and practical aeronautical experience. In essence, students work as technicians, pilots, engineers, and a slew of other aerospace occupations in order to help support the Kirishina Corporation.
Sounds pretty generic and like every other high school anime you've ever seen so far right? If that isn't the case for you then that's good, and if is the case then let me tell you right now that you could not be more wrong. Yes, this series has quite a few of the traditional cliches that populate any anime with a high school premise. However, Classroom Crisis makes use of its charming artistry, characters and storytelling to create something that feels refreshing and new. While the archetypal good girl, serious girl with mysterious past, and serious guy with incredible intelligence make regular appearances, the addition of real world consequences are heavily employed over the course of this anime.
In much the same manner as the story, the characters themselves contrast high school life with the workplace. This is evidenced by the fact that there are two main heroes and heroines, each with their own goals, motivations and backstories which aids in keeping
On a personal level, I found myself enjoying the budding romance between characters immensely enjoyable. There is a clear and likable chemistry that flows very naturally between all members of the cast, and the story only helps to enhance the sense of camaraderie and affection that the characters exude. It's all very invigorating and surprisingly refreshing for the genre, given that the series holds on to some of the conventional romantic tropes, while handling them all in a very mature fashion that isn't often seen in anime.
This anime was an incredible experience for me, and even months after having watched the series, I still feel a fond affection for the characters and story. On a personal level, I really enjoyed that this series doesn't go out of its way to be perfect or over the top. Classroom Crisis does an outstanding job of naturalizing every aspect of the series, from terraforming to the high school aerospace engineers, while still keeping a high level of excitement and anticipation. The settings and plot lines have this incredible normalization and increasingly humanizing effect that really makes the characters standout over the course of the anime.
All in all, Classroom Crisis has been one of the most exciting and pleasant series to have come out over the last two seasons of anime releases. If you haven't seen Classroom Crisis, then I would strongly recommend the series to you. There aren't many anime that so thoroughly capture some of the more inventive and long standing desires of modern day young peoples, but Classroom Crisis definitely captures the issue with style and flare. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go and rewatch this series.
